My swimming club is looking to update their website. We currently use geocities, and while it is easy to use we want to become more professional. I need to know a cheap and reliable host and I also want to know do I have to purchase my domain name from my new host. And finally I have a tenative design that I have created using a free website builder would I be able to use this?
What%26#039;s the cheapest way to create a website?
If you want to graduate from %26quot;free%26quot; to %26quot;your own%26quot;, I think this is the cheapest way to do it:
Computer + server software + ISP registration
Your needs are going to drive what kind of software you get, and it sounds like you don%26#039;t need anything beyond MS Server from Office Depot.
Your computer has to have the internal requirements to handle both the server software itself and the traffic that you expect.
The ISP registration is nothing more than creating your website and registering your unique internet web address. When you do this, you%26#039;re going to need to have an idea of what kind of traffic you expect. Ultimately, you%26#039;ll likely be placed on the least expensive tier unless you%26#039;re willing to put up prime google or yahoo cash for a premium registration for millions of daily hits.

Other Replys:I%26#039;d say JodoHost is a good one (http://www.jodohost.com). They also allow you to purchase a domain name from them, but you can buy your domain from a third party anytime.
I%26#039;d suggest, NameCheap (http://www.namecheap.com), after getting your account from JodoHost, you%26#039;ll just have to add your %26quot;name servers%26quot; to your NameCheap account. NameCheap also allows you to search potential domain names.
As long as you have the pages with you (the images, the HTML files, etc.), you%26#039;ll be able to upload that to your hosting with very little hitch. JodoHost will give you FTP access to your account, where you can upload your web files. They also have website builders you can use, if you wish to try it out. But considering you already have them, JodoHost will also accept that.
Yahoo! is also into selling domain names.

Free, 250MB webspace, CGI Enabled, 1 MySQL database, 4 subdomains, domain registration (cheap) or free transfer.
Email account etc.etc. Easy, reliable, free!
The one thing you will need to pay for is the domain, unless you use ezyrewards:
http://www.ezyrewards.com/?id=69838
Complete offers, get a certain amount of points and register a free domain name, .info, .com etc.
It is a real scheme, I have two domains out of it:
www.stealthdevelopmentteam.com
www.pimpitonline.info
Both from ezyrewards, and both hosted on freehostia.com.
Other Replys:I found that the easiest and cheapest way to build a website is through WebStart. It has a remarkably easy drag and drop tool for editing you website. Plus you can purchase the domain name from them at a reasonable price.
