So I bought my domain with one company. I am hosting it with someone else. I connected to my FTP and got my domain folder to appear. So everything seemed okay. I went to my files and dragged my main page into the FTP server.
Is that all I have to do to watch it online? Because if it is, it%26#039;s not working. What do you suggest? It%26#039;s a %26quot;.html%26quot; file, my main page. So I think that should be working perfectly, shouldn%26#039;t it? Why doesn%26#039;t my domain get started?
FTP problem anyone?
You should rename your main page to %26quot;index.html%26quot; (without quotes).
Than it will work!
This is because your hosting provider will automatically look for index.html and display that page when someone comes to your site.
FTP problem anyone?
often simply rename the file index.htm ou index.html and it should be load by default
Other Replys:I think that you shoud name the file that you put on the server: index.html It should work after that. I had the same problem. Let me know if it works.
Other Replys:Make sure the file you are uploading is called index.htm, index.html, or index.php
Also check to see if there is an error when uploading.
Try smart ftp

Its a really good, free ftp client
Other Replys:you shouldent abervate the words iam am not acomputer wiz so i dont know what it means
Other Replys:When you connect to your domain%26#039;s FTP site you will get a list of folders. Typically with most hosts you will either have a %26quot;public_html%26quot; folder, or a %26quot;www%26quot; folder. Possibly both.
You will need to upload the files you want live on the website into the %26quot;public_html%26quot; folder. for you to see the website live, one of the pages must be labeled %26quot;index.html%26quot;. (or .htm, .php)
Other Replys:ok depending on the host your main page must be named index.html or whatever they require . there should also be a folder with the same name i.e. index that contains any images or other content thats displayed on the page. . then it should work
assuming they have activated your domain name at your hosting company.
Other Replys:go to were your site folder is use file manager and find the page you uploaded rename it index.html and that should be it
Other Replys:you confusing me
Other Replys:Actually whenever a website is opened up its main pages (set in webserver are called up). By default, these names are index.htm, index.html ( also, default.html default.html). So hoempage of any website should be named one of the above mentioned name. As soon as the name of the website is typed and enter key is pressed. The file (index.htm, index.html , default.html or default.html. whichever is found first), would be opened up.
