Domain Names (Do I have to have hosting?)?

If I buy a domain name, and I want to design the site all myself from scratch, do I need or have to have hosting?

Domain Names (Do I have to have hosting?)?

Not if you want to set up your own server on your computer using Apache or equivalent. Lot easier to get a host and use their server.

well you can buy the domain name but it doesn%26#039;t mean it%26#039;s going to show up on the internet you have to have Hosting for the page to be displayable

Other Replys:Only if you want other people to be able to see your site. The web host is needed to put your site on the Internet, unless you have your own server.

Other Replys:When you buy a domain name you are purchasing the URL. So that when I call http://www.google.com a DNS server will return the hosting machines IP address.

Basically a domain name is like having your house listed in a local phone book. If you have your house listed in there people can try to come over all they want, but if you don%26#039;t have a house(host) they will be coming over to see nothing.

Other Replys:Yes Jayden, you will need hosting in order to publicly display your site.

Your first step is to register a domain name. I recommend http://www.1and1.com as your host and domain name provider not only because of their excellent price to features ration, but because of their superb customer/technical support. To start off, the %26#039;1%26amp;1 Home%26#039; hosting package should be plenty. You should have at least $35 to invest to cover the expenses of hosting for around 4-6 months.

Before entering 1%26amp;1 to register your domain name and sign up for hosting, brainstorm a list of possible names for your website and jot them down on paper. Remember to keep your name short (less than 47 characters) and memorable. Also, write down names with and without hyphens and names with and without plurals.

Narrow down your list of choices as the %26#039;1%26amp;1 Home%26#039; hosting package covers the cost of 2 domains. Always register a %26#039;.com%26#039; first and then consider other extensions like %26#039;.net%26#039; and %26#039;.org%26#039;.

You can either use 1%26amp;1%26#039;s provided %26#039;WebSpace Explorer%26#039; or you can set up an FTP (file transfer protocol) account and download an FTP program to connect to the FTP account.

Once connected, you can upload your website!

I hope this helped!

Other Replys:To design from scratch? Yes. You would need to have a hosting account, and some type of FTP program to upload the HTML files. Most hosting plans have a built-in FTP application.

To create HTML files, you can either learn HTML (if you don%26#039;t already know it), or you can use a program like DreamWeaver, FrontPage, etc. Also, many hosting plans come with a page editor which lets you create pages with a word processor-like application. Just look around at different hosting companies, westhost.com, hostgator.com, lots of others.

Hope this helps.

Other Replys:Unless you know how to host yourself, I guess the answer is yes you need a host.
