I realise this is a huge topic but how do i go about setting up a business online, domain names, hosting, etc?

Go to http://www.LocoDomains.com , they have domains for at low as $0.99, and buy one, then buy hosting, it%26#039;s cheap there too, then get a tempalte from http://www.web-site-templates.biz , throw up some ads, and you%26#039;ll be all set

I realise this is a huge topic but how do i go about setting up a business online, domain names, hosting, etc?

Thank you to everyone who posted an answer (with one exception Ll) you have been a great help. Report It

Other Replys:First, you need to learn how to spell. REALIZE!! Also, learn some proper grammar!

Other Replys:To generate revenue through advertising, you must first have content. The first step therefore is to think what type of content you want to offer to your visitors. It can be:

- information that you supply, generate or write -- the benefit is that this is your content so you control the quality but the disadvantage is whether you know how to write the content or you need to spend money to buy the content

- user generated content such as forums or YA-type where users are the one posting content -- the benefit is that you and not the users will make the content, but moderation will be critical to control the quality of the content and to ensure that people are following your terms and conditions carefully

But if you have a business model in mind, you need to start thinking of a topic. The topic must be:

- something that attracts advertisers

- a topic that attracts demographics attractive to advertisers (which often means demographics with great spending power and interested in spending)

Here are the steps you need to take when creating your online business:

STEP 1: Set Your Goals - Why do you want a web site? What is the size of the online market? What are the goals for your website?

STEP 2: Develop Your Web Site Strategy - Who is your website target audience? What typically appeals to your target audience? How are the other websites (your competition) reaching out to this target audience? How will you measure your performance?

STEP 3: Set-Up Implementation Plans - What name will you give to your site? How do you envision the design of your web site? How will you create your website? How will you create your content? How will you maintain your website?

STEP 4: Start the Ball Rolling - Do you have a logo? For e-retailers, do you have the critical components needed to run an e-commerce site? How are you going to host your site?

STEP 5: Create and Launch Your Web Site - Have you uploaded your site with your chosen web host provider? Are the scripts and application you need for your website functioning well? Have you tested your website?

STEP 6: Promote Your Web Site and Measure Its Results - Do you have a plan in place to market your website? Do you regularly review your traffic logs and web site performance tracker? How are you going to get sites to link to you? Do you know the search engine keywords that you rank well? If your site is not visible in the search engine results pages for its keywords, what strategies do you intend to do?

STEP 7: Maintain Your Website and Grow Your Web Business - Continue to find ways to grow your web business. How do you intend to continue your education on web development?

There are several ways you can earn money from advertising:

1. Join an advertising network. Advertising networks are organizations that aggregate Web sites that offer advertising space, and sell banner ads (and other advertising options) across them. Traffic requirement is often a minimum of 5,000 monthly impressions, although many do not accept sites hosted by free page services.

2. Participate in contextual advertising networks. Contextual advertising are text ads delivered based on the content of the web page using an automated system.

Yahoo! Publishing Network (currently in beta and available to US publishers only) http://publisher.yahoo.com/

IndustryBrains http://www.industrybrains.com

Commission Junction Evolution http://www.cj.com

Kanoodle Brightads http://www.kanoodle.com

Clicksor http://www.clicksor.com

Contextweb http://www.contextweb.com/

Bidclix http://www.bidclix.com/

Bidvertiser http://www.bidvertiser.com

3. Sell advertising for your site directly. This is admittedly a more difficult route for a small business site wanting to earn advertising revenues. But hey, as they say: %26quot;no pain, no gain!%26quot;

4. Affiliate Programs - you sell other people%26#039;s products that your audience may be interested in; and you get a certain commission after the desired action was done (whether a sale, a lead, subscription to email newsletter, or however this is defined)

Other Replys:Get web space without being ripped off. Try http://www.3ix.co.uk and they throw in a free go on their %26quot;dashboard%26quot; and a load of software. Then adsense for advertising and statistics and then other agencies like Commission Junction. I was reading that the National lottery in South Africa has closed and so an agency is selling them tickets for the UK one and Euro millions - affiliates with websites can make up to 25% commission - more than they make in this country! When you%26#039;re on a website - always look at the bottom of the page for affiliates and see what they are offering. Adsense is great for statistics - they will tell you which pages are most popular. Don%26#039;t worry about your spelling - we%26#039;re English: quote:

Don%26#039;t be so damn rude - that is an English spelling - you as a proof reader should know that !

Trust you Yanks to bastardise our language !!!

Other Replys:Hi!

Realise is the proper spelling in the UK, its only Americans who use z all over the place. ;-)

You can find fairly simple instructions on the web.

Do searches for:

1. Domain hosting - you need to look at prices etc with a few hosts to choose the one you want, but they can sell you webspace and a web address, if you are planning to build your own site.

2. Affiliate marketing - thats what its called when you have live banners on your site for companies like Amazon that pay you a cut when someone who follows your link then makes a purchase.

You could also join Homeworking.com (I wont put a live link under there because I moderate there so it would feel too much like advertising). Its a forum for self employed and homeworkers - no advertising, just lots and lots of swapping ideas and sharing help.

If you are new at all this, and it sounds like you are, what they discuss would be a great start for you because it includes everything.

It also warns you about paying too much for things and other helpful suggestions.

Other Replys:You can use Microsoft office live to get free domain name, free or low cost hosting depending on which package you choose, easy to use design tools, domain emails and more http://office.microsoft.com/en-GB/office... i have used this for my business and highly recommend it, see my profile for my website address so you can see what i did with it.

As for advertisements, google adwords seems to be popular. there are lots of affiliate schemes too, read the info on affiliate window%26#039;s website, they offer a good affiliate scheme where you can choose several merchants to advertise their products etc to compliment your own website http://www.affiliatewindow.com/affiliate...

You could also offer advertising space directly on your site, but this would be more admin work for you to do.

Good luck with your site %26amp; business!
